The polymerase chain reaction

• Denaturation at 95°C - DNA is heated to 95°C to split DNA into a single strand
• Annealing at 55°C - DNA is cooled to 55°C and anneals primers to the outer part of each DNA strand
• Extension at 72°C - taq polymerase extends primers adding free nucleotides to single stranded DNA
