OCD
Obsessive compulsive disorder.
There's two components:
Obsessions
which are
persistent
and intrusive thoughts and
Compulsions
which are
repetitive
behaviours.
Cognitive
characteristics
-Obsessive thoughts: are
unpleasant
and often intrusive. E.g. worrying about
contamination
The thoughts can be
violent.
Emotional
characteristics
-Anxiety and
distress
: caused by intrusive thoughts..
-Depression
: low mood and
loss
of enjoyment of activities they once enjoyed.
Behavioural
characteristics
-Compulsions
:
repetitive
behaviours and
reduce
anxiety when doing the
intrusive
thoughts.
-Avoidance
: of situations that
trigger
anxiety as phobic stimuli is there
