• OCD 


  Obsessive compulsive disorder.

  There's two components: Obsessions which are persistent and intrusive thoughts and Compulsions which are repetitive behaviours.
• Cognitive characteristics


  -Obsessive thoughts: are unpleasant and often intrusive. E.g. worrying about contamination

  The thoughts can be violent.
• Emotional characteristics 


  -Anxiety and distress: caused by intrusive thoughts..

  -Depression: low mood and loss of enjoyment of activities they once enjoyed.
• Behavioural characteristics


  -Compulsions: repetitive behaviours and reduce anxiety when doing the intrusive thoughts.

  -Avoidance: of situations that trigger anxiety as phobic stimuli is there
