  • This miracle shows us that Jesus was never too tired or too busy to help people

    3. Messengers told Jairus his daughter had died
    4. Jesus told Jairus not to be afraid, only believe
    5. Jesus went to the house, took the girl's hand, and told her to get up

  • What happened when Jesus started off with Jains
    1. So many people were going along with Jesus that they were crowding him from every side
    2. Some messengers came from Jains' house and told him, 'Your daughter has died. Why bother the Teacher any longer'
    3. Jesus paid no attention to what they said, but told Jains, 'Don't be afraid, only believe'
    4. He did not let anyone else go on with him except Peter and James and his brother John
    5. They arrived at Jains' house, where Jesus saw the confusion and heard the loud crying and wailing
  • What Jesus said when he went in

    'Why all this confusion? Why are you crying? The child is not dead-she is only sleeping'
  • What happened next
    1. They started making fun of him, so he put them all out, took the child's father and mother and his three disciples, and went into the room where the child was lying
    2. He took her by the hand and said to her, 'Talitha, koum.' which means 'Little girl, I tell you to get up!'
    3. She got up at once and started walking around
  • The child was twelve years old
  • Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone, and he said, 'Give her something to eat'
  • The miracle
    • It shows the hopelessness of the situation but the hope of Jesus
    • Jesus had perfect trust and confidence in God, even to do the seemingly impossible
    • The miracle shows that faith can be tested at moments of despair but it is important to trust in God and the hope of eternal life
  • What this miracle teaches us

    • It is the only miracle in Mark's Gospel where Jesus raises someone from the dead
    • Jesus behaves as though he were God-in the Old Testament only God had power over death and here Jesus shows his power over death on Earth
    • It points toward the resurrection when Jesus was raised from the dead
    • It reminds Christians that life will continue after death
  • Woman with a haemorrhage

    • She had suffered terribly from severe bleeding for twelve years, even though she had been treated by many doctors
    • She had spent all her money, but instead of getting better she got worse all the time
    • She had heard about Jesus, so she came in the crowd behind him, saying to herself, 'If I just touch his clothes, I will get well'
    • She touched his cloak, and her bleeding stopped at once; and she had the feeling inside herself that she was healed of her trouble
  • The woman's condition

    • She suffered from two illnesses-her physical illness of internal bleeding and her state of mind
    • According to Leviticus, the woman would have been considered unclean and therefore a social outcast
    • She had spent all her money on cures so perhaps she is physically, mentally and financially drained and is at rock bottom
    • Her faith is borne out of a certain amount of desperation as she believes if she just touches Jesus' cloak she will get well
  • What happened when the woman touched Jesus' cloak
    At once Jesus knew that power had gone out of him
  • What happened next

    1. Jesus turned around in the crowd and asked, 'Who touched my clothes?'
    2. His disciples answered, 'You see how the people are crowding you; why do you ask who touched you?' But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it
    3. The woman realised what had happened to her, so she came, trembling with fear, knelt at his feet, and told him the whole truth
    4. Jesus said to her, 'My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your trouble'
