Structure

• The poem is written in free verse, this shows the lack of consistency in both the poem and the slums
• Dharkers use of enjambment, lines running into eachother, reflects the chaotic environment of the slums
• The disorderly line lengths symbolise the instability and imbalance in the slum dwellings
• The short stanza that is squeezed in the middle of the poem reflects the squeezed in homes and how they have been forced there
