    The primary law of the land; guarantees fundamental freedoms, legal rights, and quality rights for all citizens of Canada, including those who committed crimes.
  • Among the fundamental freedoms given to all Canadian citizens are the following:
    1. Freedom of conscience and religion.
    2. Freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression, including freedom of press and other media of communication.
    3. Freedom of peaceful assembly.
    4. Freedom of association.
  • What does the charter provide?
    It provides protection for individuals and ensures fairness during legal proceedings. All of the components of the criminal justice system must operate in such a way as not to violate the rights guaranteed.
