  • Task Design
Involves classifying job activities in ways that make it easy for an employee to successfully perform and complete the task
It involves determining what needs to be done and breaking tasks down into specific duties and overlaps the employment relations function of job analysis, job description and person specification
There is a separation between manufacturing and administrative operations
In task design, it is necessary to group skills and competencies because this assists with staff recruitment.
  • Task Design 2
Attracting the right candidate for the task or job is the final part of a process that starts with task design and ends with selection
A business may also formalise the task design process while a job is already being done. Under these circumstances it is usual for the task to be analysed to see whether it could be done more efficiently → this involves a process called job analysis and requires determining who does what and why in the business. The purpose of job analysis is to improve the business’ productivity
  • Task Design 3

A business may have staff however who may not have the requisite skills for the circumstances at that time
This means that managers may wish to conduct a skills audit → this is a formal process used to determine the present level of organisational skills that need to be addressed through recruitment or training and development
