Comparison With Group 1 Elements

• The transition elements are metals with similar properties which are different from those of the elements in group 1
• Transition metals are much stronger, denser and harder than the group 1 elements. Their melting points are also much higher.
• While a group 1 metal reacts with with water, transition metals react slowly or nor at all
• When group 1 metals react, compounds formed are white in appearance. Compounds formed from transition metals are usually colourful
