    • the principles of classical conditioning in order to change the pleasurable association with the addictive substance and replace it with an unpleasant association in a vivo experience.
    • rapid smoking - smoke every 6 secs, feel sick and associate that with smoking, repeated until develop an aversion to smoking, reducing addiction
  • aversion therapy - gambling
    • electric shock when read a gambling phrase from card out loud, associate gambling with painful shock, rather then pleasure and develop an aversion to gambling, reducing addiction
  • aversion therapy - alcohol
    • given aversive drug, drink alcohol feel sick, associate alcohol with sick feeling, reducing addiction
  • covert sensitisation
    • encouraged to relax
    • imagine smoking cig followed by unpleasant consequences e.g. vomiting
    • more vivid scene = better treatment
    • associate addiction with unpleasant scenario, reducing addiction
