Variables

• Independent variable

  The variable the researcher is manipulating to see what influence/effect it has on the dependant variable
• Dependent variable

  The variable that is measured in an experiment that is affected by the manipulation of the independent variable
• Extraneous variable

  Any variable other than the independent variable that affects the dependent variable
• Confounding variable

  Any variable other than the independent variable that affects the dependent variable but it only affects one condition
