• 1. carbon in atmosphere as c02
  2. removed from atmosphere by producers for photosynthesis
  3. transferred betwen consumers due to feeding
  4. animals and plants respire releasing C02 back into atmosphere
  5. c02 can be removed from atmosphere as it is dissolved in oceans- can be taken up by marine plants during photosynthesis to build up calcium carbonate exoskeletons
• 6. when organisms die, tissues broken down by decomposers eg bacteria and fungi- respire and release C02

  7. tissue not fully decomposed= formation of peat or fossil fuels over millions of years

  8. combustion of biomass eg wood or fossil fuels released C02 to atmosphere
