• Odysseus chooses challenge of returning to Ithaca over concealment and immortality with Calypso
• aim of the hero = being talked about
• without kleos, heroic status is impossible
• when Odysseus reveals himself to the Phaeacians, his announcement that the whole world knows of his fame is not unacceptable arrogance, it is establishing kleos
• a hero is a hero for as long as he is talked about
