• one asks why Ody didn't assert his authority or land on Helios' island
• sometimes sensible party - beg Ody to leave Cyclops' cave
• they who realise they need to leave Circe to get back to Ithaca
• Eurylochus is the only crew member seen to act independently and in opposition
• bk 10 - not so wicked as irritating - refuses to return to Circe's palace and then changes his mind, not wanting to remain alone on the ship
• provides a good foil to Ody - feels like lopping his head off
• bk 12 - Eurylochus propose they beach the ships on Thrinacie - not a stupid suggestion
• his success in convincing Ody reflects bad on him, not Eurylochus
• Ody is warned by both Tiresias and Circe of dangers
