supernatural

Cards (4)

  • "Fair is foul and foul is fair." - the witches
The witches speak in rhyme, like they're chanting a spell. This foreshadows that nothing will be as it seems in the play.
  • "O full of scorpions is my mind." - macbeth
Scorpions represent Macbeth's uneasiness about the dark desire overcoming his mind to murder his friend Banquo and his son. Macbeth cannot reast easy while they are alive due to the evil taking over his soul from the witches' prophecy, who are supernatural.
  • "come you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts." - lady Macbeth
Lady Macbeth is calling upon supernatural evil for help. From here onwards her sanity deconstructs to the point where she ends her life, showing that you are doomed if you involve yourself with the supernatural. James I hated witches/the supernatural.
  • "Is this a dagger which I see before me?" - macbeth
Macbeth's mind is decaying as the supernatural witches are playing tricks on him. He is unsure whether the prophecy is real and so is unsure whether the dagger is real. The witches are trying to lure and control Macbeth for evil.
