• What does scrooge represent in society? = he represents the ignorant attitudes of the wealthy classes.
• Light as a feather" in stave 5 juxtaposes "as solitary as an oyster" in stave 1. = this signifies scrooges character development from the start to the end. It shows that he feels free now that he has let go of the negativity which was weighing him down
• What are the three key themes for scrooge? = redemption, cruelty, social injustice.
• "A merry Christmas to everybody! A happy New Year to all the world!" = this quote shows how much scrooge has changed by the end of the story. This quote also highlights his newfound generosity towards others.
• "Are there no workhouses?" = rhetorical question signifies the fact that scrooge does not think that the poor should be worth a second thought and that they should just be sent away. This also signifies scrooges cruelty towards the poor.
• "If they would rather die" = this quote shows that scrooge thinks that it is better if people do not exist at all than have to live with poverty. This quote also highlights scrooges cruelty towards the poor
• No warmth could warm, no wintry weather chill him" = shows that scrooge is cold hearted.
• "Tight fisted hand at the grindstone" = shows that scrooge is frugal and although he has a lot of money he is not willing to spend it.
• "A merry Christmas to everybody" juxtaposes "bah humbug" signifying scrooges character development from start to finish and that he has changed for the better. (His redemption)
