Parliament's Position By Strafford's Trial

• Parliament was in a strong position when it met on 3rd November 1640
• Charles needed to grant funds to pay the Scots and end the Scottish problem
• It was united in its aim of dismantling Personal Rule and removing the ‘King’s evil counsellors’
• Wentworth and Laud were impeached December 1640 and sent to Tower to await trial and many hoped for genuine political and religious reform
• John Pym emerged as the leader of the Commons. He was part of the Puritan party
