  • The Bill of Attainder was introduced into the Commons, voted on and passed to the Lords. The Lords could now agree that the accused is a traitor without needing legal proof. The monarch has to give asssent to turn the Bill into an Act
  • To pressurise the Commons and Lords to pass the Bill of Attainder, Pym whipped the London mob and released details of the Army Plot
  • The Army Plot entailed Charles ordering his army officers to return to their commands with the army in the North which led to rumours that army was going to march to London, free Strafford from the Tower and dissolve parliament
  • Army plot was mainly hearsay but King did send a troop to the Tower. Henrietta Maria believed to be actively involved – became a focus of mob attention
  • The Commons voted 204 to 59 in favour, most absented themselves)
