  • Charles did not want to sign Strafford’s death warrant and had promised to protect him
  • However, He was isolated from any support in London (His appeal to the House of Lords for Mercy went unheard) and the London Mob made him fear for his family and his life. Thus, he believed he had no other options
  • However, the event was significant as it made Charles highly suspicious of Parliament’s motives and resistance to any further negotiation
  • Strafford's execution occured 12th May 1641 with a Crowd of 100,000
  • Strafford's execution led to Dismantling of Personal Rule and the End of time of goodwill between King and Parliament
  • Charles never forgave himself –bad for future as her never negotiated fairly again
