  • Under the Five Year Plans, the amount electricity produced in millions of kilowatt hours increased from 5 in 1928 to 292 in 1960
  • The production of coal fell by 16 million tonnes between 1940 and 1945
  • Under the first five year plan, there were significant increases in the output of heavy indsutry. The engineering industry developed consideraby, especially with respct to the production of machine tools and turbines
  • Under th second 5 year plan, over 4500 new enterprises were started. Egnineering became self-sufficient and no longer relied on imports of specialist equipment. Metals such as tin, zinc and copper were mined for the first time
  • During the fourth 5 year plan, pre-war production levels were reached within 3 years
