    • Inadequate socialisation from single mothers and the lack of a paternal role model leads to young men turning to criminal and delinquent subcultures

    • Close-knit nuclear families help to steer children away from crime

    • State is too generous with benefits which leads to a culture of dependency whereby individuals are not self-reliant
    • Schools and religion have become less effective agencies of social control - the moral glue in society which gave it authority has gone, leading to a decline in morality and the breakdown of the moral fabric of society.

    • Underclass is growing exponentially as a result of globalisation
    • The automation of lots of manual labour jobs led to mass unemployment for the working-class
