• patient KF suffered brain injuries in a motorbike crash, he could only retain 1 word in short term memory
• however if patient kf was asked to recall photographs, his stm functioned fine
• this supports the idea that there are multiple short term memory stores and each processes different kind of information
• patient kf could still retain information is his long term memory
• brain imaging studies show that different parts of the brain are active during visual and verbal working memory tasks
• this suggests that there are separate visual and verbal information stores in working memory
