  • Supernatural triggers Scrooge to change - the Ghosts inspire him to be generous and kind

  • Christmas Present represents joy and the Christmas spirit. He shows jolly scenes of family and loved ones spending time on Christmas day but he also shows the haunting image of Ignorance and Want
  • Christmas Future accelerates time forward - transports Scrooge to the future that may happen to Scrooge if he doesn't change. The ghost represents death and hell. Dickens wanted to remind his readers the afterlife. He wanted his rich readers to remember to be kind to the poor so that they don't have to go to the afterlife
