  • Nervous system>>>
    - A specialised network of cells in our human body. based on electrical and chemical signals
    - (endocrine system based on hormones)
    - split into two divisions - central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS)
    - function>>>
    - collect, process and respond to information from the environment
    - coordinate the work of different organs and cells
  • central nervous system (CNS)>>>
    - Made up of the brain and spinal cord
    - The brain is divided into two hemispheres
    - Cerebral cortex is the outer layer 3mm thick
    - The brain is more developed in humans than other animals
    - The spinal cord connects is the brain to the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and this responsible for reflexes
  • Peripheral nervous system (PNS)>>>
    - It's subdivided into the autonomic nervous system and the somatic nervous system
    - Autonomic nervous system (ANS) -governs vital functions e.g heart rate, breathing, stress
    - subdivides into the sympathetic and paraympathetic nervous system
    - Semantic nervous system (SNS) - muscle movements
