  - the main is the pituitary gland aka master gland, located in the brain - controls the release of hormones from other endocrine glands in the body

  - sympathetic arousal : hypothalamus + pituitary ⇒ adrenal gland ⇒ adrenaline

  - adrenaline is released in the adrenal medulla leads to increased heart rate, breathing , sweating

  - its immmediate and automatic response

  - has parasympathetic action - once threat has passed, the body returns to rest and digest
