  • captured Therouanne & Tournai
  • Battle of Spurs at least a victory & captured some French nobles
  • First French War 1513: Wolsey proved an able organiser
  • Henry left Earl of Surrey & Catherine as Regant during the campaign & it allowed there to be some success - left the correct person in charge
  • Battle of Flodden - great victory over the scots - rare decisive military victory
  • 1521 Conf of Calais & Treaty of Bruges: Wolsey manages to delay needing to go to war with France until 1523
  • 1522-5 Second French War: Henry gets new chance of war after 10 years of peace

  • Battle of Spurs - skirmish & not much achieved - pointless campaign that country could no longer afford to campaign in 1514
  • Battle of Flodden 1513 - Scots took advantage of Henry's absence to attack
  • wars yield little & cost large amounts
  • war produces knock on effects for Eng - discontent over taxation
• Alliances & Peace Treaties Successes Phase 1

  • 1512 Eng expedition to SW France allowed Eng to negotiate alliance w Ferdinand & had assistance in war against Fr (couldn't have taken on alone) - also military
  • 1514 treaty after First French War restores French pension
  • Battle of Flodden - James IV killed - accession of child James V meant Margaret Tudor regent - should ensure good relations
