    • Maldives are ranked world's third most endangered nation due to flooding from CC and GB
    • Home to five of seven world species of marine turtles
    • Parrot fish makes a huge contribution to the beauty of the Maldives beaches. One parrot fish can produce around a ton of sand per year
  • Tourism Impacts
    • Male' is surrounded by a 3 high swa wall to stop the city disappearing. Sea walls need maintenance and repair, which is paid for via tourism
    • Tourist industry is under threat. It provides 90% of the revenue. The 2004 tsunami destroyed resorts and beaches and will continue dropping
  • Economic Impacts
    Fishing is the biggesy industry. Many people rely on industries for jobs and income for families
  • Social Impacts
    The people fear that they will be literally washed away, lose their home, jobs and families
  • Environmental Impact
    Majority of islands are only protected by a barrier of coral. There is little to stop the advancing sea level and the flooding and loss of the islands
  • Political Impacts
    • An evacuation may be needed f many islands within 50yrs
    • the 2004 tsunami caused severe damage to the infrastructure of 57 islands, caused evacuations and destruction. 21 resort islands were closed due to damage and 108 deaths

    • Floating islands will be securd to the sea via anchrs, They will be built in India and towed to the Maldives. Will include tourist entertainment
    • Sea level rises forces castaways to move to Australia - Maldivian president deemed Australia a new home for the people
    • City of Hope - being built on an artificial island called Hulhumale'. New Male'. Can accomodate 130k people
