CS UK Flooding Storm Desmond

• Location: Parts of the UK, mainly in Cumbria on the 5-6th December 2015
• Cause: An area of low pressure, which arrived from the Atlantic. Caused heavy rains and strong winds
• Social Impacts: Claimed 2 lives in Combria and Republic of Ireland, 5200 homes affected, 1000 people evacuated, 46000 homes with no power
• Environmental Impacts: thousands of trees were ripped from the river banks, landslides occurred in many places due to heavy rainfall and saturated grounds
• Economic Impacts: caused an estimated £500m of damage, costed £3b alongside storms Eva and Frank
• Responses: The Cumbrian Flood Recovery 2015 launched for clean up, repairs and for proving basis of £400k donated within 48hrs, 2000 military personnel and support assets were deployed
