Integumentary

• The epidermis is the outer layer of skin; it consists of stratified squamous epithelium with no blood supply or nerve endings.
• The dermis is the middle layer of skin; it contains connective tissue (collagen fibers) and hair follicles.
• The function of the integumentary system is protection, sensation, and regulation of body temperature
• 3 layers of skin: Epidermis, Dermis, Hypodermis
• Epidermis- Protection, Regenerating cells constantly, waterproofing, keratin

  Dermis- Support

  Hypodermis- Storage of fat, insulation
• Types of cells found in skin:

  • Keratinocytes: Produce keratin
  • Melanocytes: Defence
  • Langerhans: Defence
  • Merkel: Sensory
