Fear arousal

Cards (7)

  • Fear as a drive -> motivates to change behaviours and creates unpleasant physiological arousal.
  • Fear-behaviour relationship -> curvilinear not linear.
  • Low fear -> not enough unpleasant arousal to motivate change.
  • Moderate fear -> just enough arousal.
  • High fear -> counterproductive, believe changing behavior not enough to relieve arousal (leading to denial instead of change).
  • Evaluation of fear arousal (positives) -> support for effectiveness.
  • Evaluation of fear arousal theory (negatives) -> not sure if people respond with fear or other emotions such as anger or disgust.
