  • Disulfiram -> makes the user very sensitive to the effects of alcohol, and triggers severe hangover.
  • Acamprostate -> stabilises GABA, and reduces cravings after withdrawal.
  • Evaluation for drug treatments (positives) -> support for effectiveness (supporting evidence from many research studies, although some are more effective than others), convenient and safe (drugs are a much easier therapy than psychological therapies).
  • Evaluation for drug treatments (negatives) -> doesn't treat underlying problems (treat the symptom of stress, not the causes), dependence (may create a psychological dependence in which the person feels like they cannot function without them).
