  The contents of a cell outside its nucleus. It contains all enzymes and is the site of chemical reactions within the cell.

  A layer outside the cell membrane that supports cells and helps them to keep their shape. They are made of cellulose in plants, chitin in fungi and a carbohydrate-protein mixture in bacteria.

  Sausage-shaped organelles that act as the site of respiration in the cell.
• Chloroplast


  Organelles that act as the site of photosynthesis in plant cells, containing the pigment chlorophyll.
• Cell membrane


  A thin layer that marks the inside and outside of the cell. It is semi-permeable, meaning it controls what goes in and out of the cell.

  Controls the activities of a cell, contains the DNA arranged into chromosomes.
