Cards (27)

  • Cell components
    • Cytoplasm
    • Vacuole
    • Cell wall
    • Mitochondria
    • Chloroplast
    • Cell membrane
    • Nucleus
    • Ribosome
  • Cytoplasm
The contents of a cell outside its nucleus. It contains all enzymes and is the site of chemical reactions within the cell.
  • Vacuole
A large central space in a cell that stores cell sap.
  • Cell wall
A layer outside the cell membrane that supports cells and helps them to keep their shape. They are made of cellulose in plants, chitin in fungi and a carbohydrate-protein mixture in bacteria.
  • Mitochondria
Sausage-shaped organelles that act as the site of respiration in the cell.
  • Chloroplast
Organelles that act as the site of photosynthesis in plant cells, containing the pigment chlorophyll.
  • Cell membrane
A thin layer that marks the inside and outside of the cell. It is semi-permeable, meaning it controls what goes in and out of the cell.
  • Nucleus
Controls the activities of a cell, contains the DNA arranged into chromosomes.
  • Ribosome
A small structure in a cell where protein synthesis happens.
  • Cell types

    • Excretion
    • Nutrition
  • Stem cells
    Can turn into cancer cells
  • Stem cells in medicine can cure injuries and diseases
  • Cell structure
    • Eukaryote
    • Prokaryote
  • Eukaryote
    • Has a nucleus
  • Prokaryote
    • Has no nucleus
  • It is important that there is a difference in cells so they can be as efficient as possible in their individual functions
