• Spartacists seized power in Berlin on 6 Jan 1919

  Freikorps (2000) net by Ebert to counterattack

  3 days of street fighting led to a Freikorps victory and the Spartacist leaders being captured and killed
• Ebert held the elections and won with his party the SPD, becoming the new German president
