morality

Cards (13)

  • Morality refers to the idea of having a sense of right
and wrong. It is, again, only humans who have these
    morals.
  • Christians believe that they should live according to
God’s plan and design. They should take care of the universe and follow the
    commandments God has given them.
  • If they obey his commands, then God will
    bless them.
  • free will - Free will refers to the ability to choose between different possible courses of action. Christians believe that all humans have free will and this free will is God-given,
  • Without free will, humans could not be held accountable for their actions, as they will not have made the conscious choice to live and act in a moral way.
  • rationality - Rationality refers to the idea that God made humans rational beings. This means that human beings, unlike other living creatures, can think, plan, and understand.
  • They can weigh up actions and consequences and can make well-informed judgments and decisions, including religious and moral ones.
  • Some Christians believe that as a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, humans carry with them something called Original Sin. This means that humans tend to disobey God
  • fallen nature - christians believe that when adam and eve disobeyed God that the world 'fell' from being perfect and brought evil into the world.
  • Some people would say that all rules such as ‘stealing is wrong’ and ‘lying is wrong’, are valid and universal no matter what the circumstances. They apply to all people at all times and in all situations.
  • Many people would say that what is morally right is what God has commanded and what is morally wrong is whatever God has forbidden.
  • Relativists agree that there need to be moral principles in which people live by. However, they would say that these moral principles may need to be adapted in certain situations.

For example, relativists would say that lying is generally
considered to be wrong, but what if it was necessary to tell a lie to save
    someone's life?
  • Situation ethics is a theory where the situation is taken into account first,
before deciding on the rules of right and wrong. There are no set of rules,
because what might be considered immoral in one situation could be considered
the most moral thing to do in another. The general rule of this approach is that
the correct action should be the most loving action.
