  • Additional Member System is used in the Scottish Parliament, Senedd Cymru/ Welsh Parliament, Germany and New Zealand
  • Additional Member System (AMS)
Voters get two choices, one for a regional member and one for a constituency member.
This system uses a mixture of systems: FPTP and Party list (roughly like PR). It keeps the constituency link between the voter and MP like FPTP but also ensures PR in Parliament, so you’re less likely to get supermajorities, eg: Thatcher or Blair in 1997
  • Hybrid System – A hybrid voting system is one that combines elements of other voting systems to find a balance between them.
  • Closed Party List – An electoral method where voters select a political party rather than individual candidates. Parties lists of candidates, and seats are allocated proportionally based on the party’s share of the vote
