    • EXAMPLE - debate around life support. If patient lost consciousness is there a normal right to withdraw care
    • Crick and Coch - ONE patient so just ONE abnormal brain

    • Cases of ‘locked in’ syndrome - patient appears in a vegetative state but is conscious and fully aware of surroundings
    • Richard Marsh 2012 - had stroke and doctors believed he was in a vegetative state + asked wife to switch off life support - Walked out of hospital 4 months later fully recovered as he signalled to family he was conscious

    • Doctors may use evidence to advantage - can empty beds + in Wales there is an opt out system so if doctor needs a donor they can turn off life support
