    • According to the Conversation (2019), there are 14 Confucius Institutes at 13 universities across Australia, which conduct events such as language classes and cultural workshops. 
    The Hanban, or the headquarters for the Confucius Institute, celebrates how the initiative has ‘provided a scope of people…to learn about Chinese language and culture’, and simultaneously create a ‘bridge in reinforcing friendship and cooperation between China and the rest of the world’.
  • Human Rights Watch said in its 2019 report that "Confucius Institutes are extensions of the Chinese government that censor certain topics and perspectives in course materials on political grounds, and use hiring practices that take political loyalty into consideration
