7.4 Heart structure

• Pump on the left receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the body.
• Pump on the right receives deoxygenated blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs.
• The heart is divided into four chambers, two atria (upper) and two ventricles (lower).
• Valve between the atrium and ventricle prevents backflow when pumping.
