• God created humans


  In Genesis it says, "So God created man in his own image: male and female he created them."

  In the Ten Commandments it says, "You shall not commit adultery." And Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
• Wedding vows


  In the Christian wedding ceremony the couple make the following vows to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish till death us do part, according to God's holy law, and this is my solemn vow
• One flesh, no divorce


  Jesus said, "But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
• Body is a temple

  St. Paul said, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
• Equality


  St. Paul wrote to the Galatians "There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus"
• Slavery


  In the New Testament, St. Paul write to Titus, "Tell slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect, they are not to answer back, not to pilfer, but to show complete and perfect fidelity, so that in everything they may be an ornament to the doctrine of God our Saviour."
• Go forth and multiply


  In Genesis it says, "So God created man in his own image; male and female he created them. And God blessed them, and God said to them, "be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth."
• The Golden Rule


  Jesus taught people "Love your neighbour as you love yourself. This is known as the 'Golden Rule'.

  Although Jews and Samaritans were enemies, Jesus preached to a Samaritan woman, who became one of the first people to proclaim him Messiah

  In the New Testament, St. Peter wrote, "Husbands, in the same way, show consideration for your wives in your life together, paying honour to the woman as the weaker sex

  St. Paul said, "For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything Husbands love your wives, just as Christ loved the church Husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.   In the Ten Commandments God said, "Honour your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you."

And just as he was coming up out of the water he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him.   St. Teresa of Avila was a Spanish Catholic nun who had deep experiences of God during mystical contemplative prayer. Her soul was joined to God in a "spiritual marriage".
• The Bible


  St Paul wrote to Timothy 'All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3
• The Sermon on the Mount
