  • Choose whatever religion they like
  • Worship who/whatever they want
  • Pray volunatarily
• 1A. A person can't:

  • Set a state religion
  • Force people to pray
  • Teach religious doctrine in school
  • Break the law and claim it's for one's religion
  • Deprive children of basic needs
• 1B. Guarantees: Freedom of speech
• 1B. A person can:

  • Say any political belief
  • Criticize the government
  • Burn the flag
  • Say/display racist/hate slogans
• 1B. A person can't:

  • Make threats to commit crimes
  • Sexually harass others
  • Incite a riot
  • Slander another person
  • Commit a hate crime
  • Use crude or vulgar language in a public form
• 1C. Guarantees: Freedom of the Press
• 1C. A person can:

  • Have a biased political opinion
  • Criticize/make fun of the government
  • Expose wrongs by the government
  • Print materials considered to be obscene or offensive
• 1C. A person can't:

  • Print libel (printed slander)
  • Disclose classified information
  • Make certain materials available to minors
  • Advocate illegal activity
• 1D. Guarantees: Freedom of Assembly
• 1D. A person can:

  • Congregate in a public place
  • Protest peacefully
  • Have a parade
  • Parade chanting hate slogans
• 1D. A person can't:

  • Protest violently
  • Loiter
  • Interfere with public right of way
  • Create a safety hazard
  • Break teen curfew
• 1E. Guarantees: Right to Petition the Government
• 1E. A person can:

  • Criticize the government
  • Express an opinion to government leaders
  • Sue the government
• 1E. A person can't:

  • Make threats against government officials
  • Commit treason
• 2nd. Guarantees: The right to bear arms
• 2nd. Exceptions:

  • Some weapons are prohibited throughout the country. Includes most fully-automatic and machine guns. Any altered rifle is illegal.
  • Prohibited in Massachusetts: Stilettos, daggers, switchblades, double-edged knives
• 3rd. Guarantees: No quartering of soldiers
• 4th. Guarantees: Protection against unreasonable search and seizure
• 4th. Exceptions:

  • Search warrant
  • Pursuant to arrest
  • Plain sight
  • "Hot pursuit"
  • Emergency
  • Schools
  • Country borders
  • Airports
• 5th. Guarantees:

  • You must be indicted by a grand jury for capital crimes
  • No double jeopardy
  • You do not have to testify against yourself
  • You must have due process
  • Eminent domain rule
• 6th. Guarantees:

  • Right to a speedy trial by an impartial jury of your peers
  • Right to confront witnesses against you
  • Right to subpoena favorable witnesses
  • Right to an attorney
• 7th. Guarantees: Right to a jury trial if you are being sued for a sum greater than $20
• 8th Guarantees:

  • A person cannot be held on excessive bail
  • A convicted person cannot be punished in a cruel or unusual way
• 9th. Guarantees: Just because the Constitution doesn't specifically say you have a certain right, it doesn't mean you don't have that right
• 10th. Guarantees: Any powers not specifically given to the federal government through the Constitution are left to the states (states' rights amendment)
• 10th. Exceptions: Marijuana is federally banned, but states can decide if it's legal or not (for example)
