Characteristics of rainforest

• Tropical rainforests are found in between the tropics

  e.g. South America, South East Asia
• Tropical rainforests have over 2000mm of rainfall a year

  High temperatures averaging at about 27 degrees throughout the year
• Rainforest soils are very infertile and nutrient poor
• Most nutrients in a rainforest are found on the surface of the soils
• 4 layers to the rainforest:

  Highest: Emergent layer

  Canopy

  Under Canopy

  Lowest: Forest floor
