Vegetation adaptations

• Emergent trees grow to 40m tall to get to the 2% of sunlight
• Tree trunks are branchless to help them to not get stuck on the growth
• The rainforest is always evergreen because there is one continuous season
• Epiphytes live on branches in the canopy To try to get to the sunlight and takes nutrients from other trees
• Trees have thin smooth bark to help trees stop growing epiphytes which take nutrients
• The leaves have a drip tip to lose water from the 2000mm average rainfall
• Buttress roots are above the ground to get to the nutrients from the 5cm of the soil which have nutrients
• The leaves are thick and waxy so that the leaves are waterproof and prevent breakage
