Animal cells

• Animal cells are a type of eukaryotic cell
• Animal cells contain membrane bound organelles and a nucleus
• The nucleus controls the cells activities and contains the genetic material,(DNA)
• The cytoplasm is a gel-like substance where most of the cells metabolic reactions occur
• Cell membrane surrounds the cytoplasm, controlling the movement of substances in and out of the cell
• Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell where energy is produced through respiration
• The endoplasmic reticulum is where proteins synthesis happens
• Ribosomes are the small structures involved in the synthesis of proteins
• Unlike plant cells, animal cells do not have cell wall, chloroplast or a large central vacuole
• Animal cells may contain smaller temporary vacuole for storage and transport
• The function of an animal cell depends on the type of the cell
• For each type of cell an animal has it has adaptations that allow it to perform a specific role
