AO1 - Thematic Analysis

• Thematic analysis - This is a method of analysing qualitative data by identifying emergent themes, enabling us to present the data in a qualitative format. E.g. diary entries
• Thematic analysis is carried out by:

  1. Read and re-read the transcript/watch the video - familiarisation (if the data is not a transcript, watch the video or listen to recordings to create a transcript about AO2)
  2. Identify/create coding by looking for words (AO2) which cropped up repeatedly
  3. Combine these codes to reduce the number of codes into three or four themes that are linked to AO2 of scenario
  4. Present the data in a qualitative format, not quantitative. E.g. quotes from the video/transcript
