Biodiversity is the general term used to describe variety in the living world. It is composed of three different types of diversity - species diversity, genetic diversity and ecosystem diversity.
Species diversity refers to the number of different species and the number of individuals of each species within any one community.
Genetic diversity refers to the variety of genes possessed by individuals that make up a population of a species.
Ecosystem diversity refers to the range of different habitats in the living world.
Speciesrichness is the number of different species in a particular area in a given time (community). This can be used to measure species diversity.
The diversity index can also be used to measure species diversity.
