Right Realism

• Right Realism:

  • Right realism sees crime as a growing problem, and believe punishment is the best way to tackle crime.
• Right Realism:

  Biological Difference- you are born with criminal traits such as aggression and low intelligence thus social factors are not to blame (Wilson and Herrnstein) i.e. capitalism + poverty
• Right Realist:

  Inadequate Socialisation- Murray argues that because of the benefit system, more families divorce or do not marry, which leads to deviant children who aren’t properly socialised because of the lack of morals/values.
• Right Realism:

  Rational Choice- Rational choice Theory suggests we make the choice to commit crime based on rational thought vs consequence. As such, right realists think night crime rates are because criminals don’t fear punishment.
