The cell membrane controls the exchange of materials between the internal and external environments of the cell. Only certain molecules and ions allowed in and out for example water, carbon dioxide and nutrients.
The cell membrane is a biolayer (2 layers) of Phospholipidmolecules. Phospholipids consist of two fatty acid tails which are hydrophobic (water hating) and one phosphate head which is hydrophilic (water loving).
The fluid mosaic model is a representations of the cell membrane that describes the structure and series of fluid-filled components.
