  • What is a levee?
    A levee is a raised embankment built along a river or other body of water to prevent flooding.
  • Firstly, when a flood occurs, the river loses energy, and deposits the heaviest material first on the banks of the river.
  • Secondly, the sediment builds up after more floods, so the river is wider and deeper
  • Thirdly, the river can carry more water
  • Lastly, the build up of sediment forms a levee on the banks of a river
