Respiration

Cards (13)

  • Aerobic respiration - respiration with oxygen
  • Aerobic respiration - glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water
  • Way to remember aerobic respiration- AERObic (bubble with oxygen)
  • Anaerobic respiration- used to meet a sudden demand for energy or when no enough oxygen is available for aerobic respiration
  • Anaerobic respiration- glucose -> lactic acid + energy
    1. Mouth
    2. trachea
    3. bronchus
    4. bronchioles
    5. alveoli
  • You breathe faster and more deeply when you exercise
  • People with asthma have lungs that are too sensitive to certain things (pet hair, dust, smoke)
  • During an asthma attack :
    • muscles in the bronchioles contracts
    • lining of the bronchioles become swollen
    • fluids build up in the airway
  • Cigarette smoke contains tar that cover the cilia (tiny hairs) in your airways
  • Cilia normally move mucus out of your airways. The damaged cilia can’t do this properly.
  • The mucus sticks in your airways. This makes you cough more (smokers cough)
  • Response to exercise:
    • your breathing gets faster
    • your heart rate increase
    • glucose and oxygen go to your muscles via blood
