    • roger argued person growth was based on the self being congruent with ideal self
    • if gap between too wide= incongruence and self actualisation not possible

    • low self esteem rooted in childhood due to lack of unconditional love from parents
    • client encourage towards own solutions in theraputic atmosphere

    • genuine, empathetic, shows unconditional positive regard
    • aims to increase self esteem and reduce incongruence
