aim: investigated the effect of alcohol on state-dependentretrieval
Procedure: information was given to participants while drunk, and then tested while sober then drunk 24hrs after
Godden & Baddeley ( 1975 ):
Aim: To investigate the effects of context cues on recall
Procedure: 18 divers had to recall a wordlist in a mixture of 2 conditions: underwater and on land
Godden & Baddeley ( 1975 ):
Pros:
showed that externalcues had affects
Cons
low ecological validity - reallife memories are alot more complex
unfair conditions - the group that had to change environment were disrupted
McGeoch and McDonald’s (1931):
Aim: investigate the effect of newmemories on previously learned information
Procedure: 6 groups of participants were asked to remember an artificial word list then each group got a different word list to remember
Godden & Baddeley (1975):
Results: those that had to recall in the same environment had higherrecall rate thus concluding contextualinterference
Goodwin et al (1969):
Results: participants had a higher recall rate when in the same state of when they recieve the information (drunk) thus concluding, state dependent interference
Mcgeoch and Mcdonald (1931):
Results: the group with synonyms or close phonetic terms had the lowest rate of recall, group with numbers had the highest recall
