direct/indirect proportion

Cards (7)

  • two variables are said to be direct proportion if when one variable is increased or decreased, the other is increased or decreased accordingly, by the same percentage
  • it's all about keeping things either side of the equals sign, well, equal. its also heavily based on multiplying up or down by the same amount and doing the same stuff on both sides
  • unitary method - find out the value of one unit of something and then multiply/divide it however. it simplifies the method and makes it far simpler
  • two variables are said to be in inverse proportion if when one variable is increased or decreased, the other is decreased or increased by the multiplyer
  • asymptote - when doing a graph, there is often an asymptote, which is the gap which will always be there between the line and the x or y axis, as for example with time of distance travelled, nobody can travel at
  • asymptote - when doing a graph, there is often an asymptote, which is the gap which will always be there between the line and the x or y axis, as for example with time of distance travelled nobody can travel in completely 0 seconds, it will always be a certain time, no matter how far, and that gap is the asymptote
  • maps use scales to convert to ratios
